As part of the Federal government’s Coronavirus Guidance for America, transportation infrastructure is considered an “Essential Critical Infrastructure.” Additionally, transit capital projects are not subject to the State of California’s Stay at Home order, therefore Metro construction projects continue to progress.

Summary
Metro’s contractor will be performing duct bank inspections on Wilshire Blvd. near the VA Hospital Campus in preparation for the Purple (D Line) Extension Section 3. The underground duct banks will allow a substantial amount of electrical wiring to be consolidated in one area.
The installation is scheduled for Wednesday, December 30, 2020 through Thursday, December 31, 2020 and will take 2 days to complete. The work will be completed during daytime hours from 9am to 3pm. Traffic closures will be implemented for Stage 2 and Stage 5 to access the required work area. The eastbound Wilshire Blvd. off-ramp to Bonsall Ave. and the eastbound Bonsall Ave. on-ramp to Wilshire Blvd. will be closed while the construction work is completed. Bonsall Ave., north and south, will remain open during the construction work. Detours to access and egress the VA Hospital Campus will be implemented as detailed below. Stage 2 Detours:
- The eastbound Wilshire Blvd. off-ramp to Bonsall Ave. will be closed.
- Temporary traffic restrictions may be required while construction personnel and equipment enter and exit the work area.
- Access to/from the VA Hospital will be detoured during work hours. Detour along S. Sepulveda Blvd. and Ohio Ave., to Sawtelle Blvd. and onto Dowlen Dr.
Stage 5 Detours:
- The eastbound Bonsall Ave. on-ramp to Wilshire Blvd. will be closed.
- Temporary traffic restrictions may be required while construction personnel and equipment enter and exit the work area.
- VA Hospital Campus egress will be detoured from Bonsall Ave. to Sawtelle Blvd., to Santa Monica Blvd. to Sepulveda Blvd., and then onto Wilshire Blvd.
Construction Work Areas
The purple arrows mark the location of the construction work for the two stages of the SCE scope of work. The graphic shows the areas where activities are or will be occurring: 1) Stage 2 is the green area; 2) Stage 5 is the red area.
Noteworthy
- All work has received necessary permits and approvals.
- Access to driveways, residences & businesses will be maintained at all times unless notified in advance.
- Access for pedestrians will be maintained outside of construction zones.
- Access for the Fire Department and emergency responders will be maintained.
- Parking restrictions will be implemented in the immediate area of the work zone.
