Installation of the Underground Duct Banks and Manholes

As part of the Federal government’s Coronavirus Guidance for America, transportation infrastructure is considered an “Essential Critical Infrastructure.” Additionally, transit capital projects are not subject to the State of California’s Stay at Home order, therefore Metro construction projects continue to progress.

Summary

Workers continue installing underground duct banks and manholes within Metro’s Division 20 rail yard extending from north of 1st St Bridge to Metro’s Division 20 parking lot (320 S. Santa Fe Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90012). The underground duct banks will hold wiring to support utilities, and the manholes will provide an access point for underground utilities and allow inspection and maintenance work.

Construction consists of trench excavation, installation of duct banks and manholes, shoring, and backfilling of trenches. Please note there will be intermittent noise during this construction throughout the South Yard and east of the One Santa Fe Building.
