1st Street Bridge Upgrades

Summary

Metro contractors continue work under the 1st Street Bridge and the large area immediately east of the One Santa Fe building. This area will house a traction power substation (TPSS), a new road area, and a rail storage yard. Construction activities occur from 7am to 3:30pm on weekdays.

Construction east of the One Santa Fe building includes potholing, demolition of a rail track bed, excavation, installation of utilities, and soil compaction. Construction under the 1st Street Bridge includes demolition, support installation, and structural concrete work.

During the excavation and shoring activities for the new TPSS site, contractors may make noticeable but intermittent noise while pounding the shoring steel plates to the ground. This noticeable noisy activity will continue through June 5, 2021, as necessary.

What to Expect

What: Potholing, excavation, demolition, micropile drilling, utility duct bank, and vault installation, shoring, soil compaction, and structural concrete work. Heavy equipment will be utilized, which may cause some noise.

The Division 20 Portal Widening and Turnback Facility Project will enhance the Division 20 Rail Yard to allow for improved service times throughout the Metro B Line (Red)/D Line (Purple) system. Heavy equipment will be utilized, which may cause some noise.
