On January 25, 2021 LA Metro Mobility on Demand (MOD) two-year pilot with Via will Transition to Metro Micro.
On January 25, 2021, our two-year pilot will come to an end, and the existing Via rideshare service will transition to a new app called Metro Micro . We’re tremendously proud of everything we’ve accomplished in partnership with Via over the past two years. We provided over 250,000 rides to some of the county’s most underserved communities, exceeding LA Metro’s goals for the project by a factor of 2.5. In the midst of an unprecedented pandemic, we were able to offer safe transportation to essential workers who needed to move around, and we delivered thousands of meals to vulnerable Angelinos .

Metro has partnered with Via to offer on-demand rides to select transit stations in three service zones. Monday to Friday, 6AM to 12AM and Saturdays and Sundays 8AM to 10PM, customers in the service zones can book a seat in a shared vehicle to or from Metro and Metrolink Stations in areas of North Hollywood, El Monte, and Compton. In response to the COVID-19 crisis, for a limited time, riders will be able to go anywhere in the zone, not just the stations in order to make essential trips.
Rides can be requested using Via’s mobile app or by calling their call center with a traditional phone. Customers with disabilities, including those with service animals, wheelchairs, or other mobility aids or who need additional assistance to board or alight, can request on-demand rides in the app or with the call center.
All rides are a free transfer from the Metro system. Therefore, no credit card or bank account information is required to book.

Rides are available Monday to Friday, 6AM to 12AM and Saturdays and Sundays 8AM to 10PM.
How to Ride
- Download the Via app from your smart phone’s app store
- Sign up to create your account
- If you need extra assistance, toggle the "Wheelchair Accessible" option in your account profile
- Set your pick-up location and add your destination and address
- Call +1 833-917-0697 to book a ride over the phone. You can tell the customer service representative your pick up and drop off location and if you need extra assistance. Translation services are available as well.
- Via will match you with a driver in the area. On average, most passengers will have a wait time of 10 minutes or less. Once the ride is booked, the app will show you the driver's name, the car's make and model, the license plate number and the driver's expected time of arrival
- After you book a ride, the app will display the pick-up location where the vehicle will meet you.
- If you are booking a ride from a Metro station in your zone, please look for signs for the designated Via pickup area. For pickups for rides going to Metro stations, you may be asked to walk a short distance to your pickup location. Via is a corner-to-corner service, so your actual pick-up spot – if you are traveling TO a Metro station - may differ from where you asked to be picked up
- Once the driver arrives, be sure to double-check that you're boarding the correct vehicle by verifying the vehicle's license plate number and asking the driver's name
- Enjoy the ride! Each Via trip and driver will be different
- Once you've reached your destination, you'll have the opportunity to rate your driver on a scale from 1 to 5 stars.
