Metro is designing and building a new building on Metro-owned property in the Arts District. The new building will be approximately four stories tall and is anticipated to be a Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) building, incorporating sustainable design features where appropriate, to minimize non-renewable energy consumption, reduce waste, and conserve water.
The building will be designed to complement the character and identify of the Arts District, as well as anticipate future bicycle infrastructure and street beautification additions included as part of the Metro Eastside Access Improvements project. Community outreach has been conducted during the design process to obtain input from the community. A site-specific artwork will be integrated into the project, and temporary artwork will be installed on the site fencing during construction.
MCSP is a secured facility for authorized personnel only and not open to the general public. The project is comprised of two phases with Phase One anticipated to be completed by 2023. Phase 2 is anticipated to be completed in 2025. The project supports Metro’s growing transit expansion and future special events in LA including the Olympics, World Cup, and Super Bowl.
The project was analyzed for any potential environmental impacts according to California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) requirements. The Initial Study (IS) findings resulted in a Mitigated Negative Declaration (MND) on December 16, 2015, completing the environmental clearance process.
